Former MSE Ph.D. student, Matthew Boebinger, was awarded a 2021 Sigma Xi Best PhD Thesis Award. Boebinger’s thesis “In Situ Examination of Nanoscale Reaction Pathways in Battery Materials” explores use of in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to understand nanoscale reaction mechanisms and degradation processes in high-capacity electrode materials for Li-, Na- and K-ion batteries, as well as Li-ion conducting ceramic electrolytes.
Boebinger is currently a postdoc at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
