The MSE graduate program is broadly focused in materials research, primarily at the Ph.D. level.  However, a limited number of admissions are also granted to students wishing to pursue M.S. degrees.

While the MSE School dates back over a hundred years, the graduate program is fairly young  and evolving, and is rapidly establishing itself as one of the leading research and education programs in Materials Science and Engineering. MSE graduates are hired by the leading companies, government laboratories, as well as academic institutions the world over.

The joint MSE School has 56 faculty, including courtesy appointments. Approximately 17 full time faculty members specialize in polymers. There are also approximately 200 students in the MSE PhD program. Students with a B.S. or M.S. degree in Polymer Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Textile Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Physics, or in a related field of science and engineering can be admitted in the Ph.D. program.

Ph.D. admissions are generally granted with financial assistance in the form of graduate research assistantships.
